Why This Race

The organizer pitch, translated for runners

Join us on Friday, May 22, at 6 PM for the ASICS Blue Jean Mile at Providence College's Ray Treacy Track - a one-of-a-kind event where speed meets style for a greater purpose. In 2020, ASICS elite athlete Johnny Gregorek laced up in his favorite pair of blue jeans and set the World Record for the fastest mile ever run in denim—all in an effort to raise awareness for mental health. Now, ASICS is carrying that mission forward, inviting runners everywhere to take part in our largest virtual Blue Jean Mile yet while also joining in-person events like this one in Providence. As a brand built on the ethos of “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body,” ASICS is committed to supporting mental health, and the Gansett Run Club is proud to partner with the National Alliance on Mental Illness – Rhode Island Chapter (NAMI-RI) for this event. During registration, participants will have the opportunity to donate to NAMI-RI and contribute to a cause that affects us all. Mental health impacts everyone—whether personally or through a loved one. By showing up, running in jeans, and standing together, we help break the stigma and start conversations that can make a difference. 📍 Location: Ray Treacy Track, Providence College📅 Date: Friday, May 22⏰ Time: 6 PM🎽 Who Can Participate? Runners of all levels! Walk, jog, or sprint—just make sure you're rocking a pair of blue jeans. Participation is FREE! Sign up via RunSignUp, grab your favorite pair of jeans, and meet us on the track. Come run for a reason, support a cause that matters, and show that every mile—just like every conversation—can make an impact. The only rule? Jeans required.
