Why This Race

The organizer pitch, translated for runners

The Moore County Trail Marathon, Half, and 5K is part of the Sandhills Running "Miles 4 Moore" race series.  The "Miles 4 Moore" race series is a charity run series that donates proceeds to support community wellness and resiliency.  The proceeds from this event will go towards funding gym memberships, coaching, and nutrition consultations for low-income families and high school athletes. Marathon and Half Route: Participants will enjoy a scenic route around Reservoir Park, Whitehall Trail, and Nick’s Creek Trail.  Marathon runners will complete this loop twice. There will be four well stocked aid stations along the route with water, Gatorade, and runners' snacks.  Since the route is a loop, the four aid stations will provide eight stops along the marathon route. Registration will open 01 December 2025 and remain open through race day. The event will be open to runners, walkers, and backpackers.  The marathon has a 7-hour cut off time which is a 16:01 pace per mile.   5K Route: Participants will enjoy a scenic route around Reservoir Park.   Parking and Start Line Info: Parking will be available in the Faulkner parking lot Sandhills Community College off Earhart Drive Pinehurst NC, 28374.  The start line is located at tailhead near the Palmer Trades Center. https://maps.app.goo.gl/QxGPemuRQZEionqq7 This is a self-paced fun run/walk.  The event is intended to build community wellness and resiliency while raising awareness and funds for a great cause.  There will be prizes for the top male and female in each event category.  Things to do for families and spectators. The Gardens and Reservoir Park are great locations for families and spectators to take in some natural scenery while waiting for their runner.  The area offers plenty of scenic hiking trails, and fishing.  The nearby towns of Southern Pines, Aberdeen, and Pinehurst offer plenty of shopping, restaurants, and coffee shops. There will also be food trucks and activities on site.  Weather: March weather in Moore County is typically cooler in the mornings with temperatures in the mid-40s and mild to pleasant by mid-day with temperatures in the mid-50s to low-60s.  The race is early enough that we may catch some early spring blossoms and miss the pollen.   Participants will receive an official race t-shirt and finishers medal.  T-shirts cannot be guaranteed for registrations after Feb 25, 2026.  Packet Pickup:  Race packets can be picked up between 6:30-7:00 am the morning of race day March 7, 2026, or picked up the evening prior March 6,2026 at Pace Yourself Run Co in Downtown Southern Pines between 6:00-7:00 pm.  https://maps.app.goo.gl/dbuik69B5iUW2mrb9
