About This Race
The Equinox Marathon is the premier trail running event in Interior Alaska, with a history stretching back to 1963 when it was organized by members of the University of Alaska Fairbanks community. The challenging course begins at the UAF campus, climbs up and over Ester Dome (2,323 ft) -- and then climbs it again -- for a total elevation gain of 3,285 feet (1,001 m). Most of the course follows trails and dirt roads through the Alaska interior. The race features a generous 10-hour time cutoff. Organized by Running Club North since 1993, the Equinox was once the largest marathon in the world, surpassing Boston Marathon participation in its early years. A relay option is also available.
