Why This Race

The organizer pitch, translated for runners

The Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon is the highest marathon in the world, starting at Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and finishing in Namche Bazaar (3,440m). Held every May 29th to commemorate the first summit of Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953, the event takes runners through some of the most dramatic Himalayan scenery on Earth. The course descends through glacial valleys, crosses suspension bridges, and passes through Sherpa villages. Mandatory acclimatization trekking of 2-3 weeks is required. The event also features a 60K ultra marathon category.

Planning

Travel and race-weekend logistics

Once a race makes your shortlist, travel confidence matters almost as much as the course itself. Keep the practical notes in one place.

Race day weather

Late May at Everest Base Camp averages -5 to 10C (23-50F). Extreme high-altitude conditions with thin air. Acclimatization absolutely critical.

Community Layer

Keep the race room close to the decision

The point of the room is not generic chatter. It is to keep stay questions, pacing nerves, meetup plans, and last-mile logistics attached to the same race page you are already using.
