About This Race

Freedom's Run is West Virginia's largest marathon, created in 2009 by Dr. Mark Cucuzzella and Lois Turco. The entire marathon course is encased in National Park land with a brief detour on a country road. The full marathon runs through Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and continues onto the C&O Canal before meeting the half marathon route for a steady incline to Antietam National Battlefield, finishing in the historic town of Shepherdstown. Through the guidance of the Eastern Area Health Education Center, Freedom's Run has given over $230,000 back to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. The event includes a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, and Kids One-Mile Fun Run.
