About This Race
The Great Wall Marathon is one of the world's most iconic bucket-list races, taking runners along and over the ancient Huangyaguan section of the Great Wall of China. Founded in 1999, the race is famous for its gruelling 5,164 stone steps, steep climbs, and breathtaking mountain scenery. The course combines sections on the Wall itself with trails through local villages and surrounding countryside. It is organized by Albatros Adventure Marathons from Denmark and attracts an international field of around 2,500 runners.
