About This Race
The JAL Honolulu Marathon is one of the five largest marathons in the United States, drawing over 20,000 finishers annually from around the world. First held on December 16, 1973, the race was inspired by former Honolulu Mayor Frank Fasi after observing the Boston Marathon. The course starts at Ala Moana Beach Park, passes through Waikiki, climbs Diamond Head, and finishes at Kapiolani Park. There is no time limit and no qualifying requirement, making it welcoming to all runners. The weekend also includes the Start to Park 10K and the Kalakaua Merrie Mile.
