About This Race
The Providence Hood to Coast Relay is the largest running and walking relay race in the world, drawing participants from over 40 countries and all 50 states. Teams of 8-12 runners cover 196 miles from the summit of Mt. Hood to the beaches of the Pacific Ocean in Seaside, Oregon, with each runner completing three relay legs. The Portland to Coast walking relay covers 128 miles. Founded in 1982 with just eight teams, the event has sold out for 37 consecutive years and is selected by lottery. The course traverses 36 legs with 35 exchange points through the unique and beautiful Oregon terrain.
