About This Race
The Marathon des Sables is the world's toughest footrace — a 250km self-sufficiency ultra-marathon through the Sahara Desert over 6 stages across sand dunes, rocky jebels, dried riverbeds, and salt flats in temperatures reaching 50°C (122°F). Competitors carry all their own food and gear (except tent and water). Since 1986, it has drawn 1,300 runners annually from 50+ countries, tested to their absolute limits in the world's most extreme race environment.
