Held each January in Merida, the White City capital of Yucatan, this Banorte-sponsored marathon has run since 1986 to mark the anniversary of the city's 1542 founding. The pre-dawn 5 a.m. start sends runners from the Monumento a la Patria along the Paseo de Montejo, past colonial monuments and churches dating to the 1500s and through the historic center. The World Athletics-certified, Boston-qualifying course also stages a half marathon, 10K and 3K walk.
