About This Race
The Marine Corps Marathon is called "The People's Marathon" — it offers no prize money and is run purely for the honor of the finish. The course starts at the Pentagon, winds past every iconic Washington DC monument (Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument obelisk, US Capitol, Lincoln, Jefferson, WWII, Vietnam, Korean War Memorial) along the National Mall, through Georgetown's cobblestone streets, across the Key Bridge over the Potomac, and finishes at the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Monument).
