About this race
First run in 1977 as the Joe Steele Rocket City Marathon and still put on by the Huntsville Track Club, it was the first marathon held in Alabama and remains a USATF-certified Boston qualifier. The gently rolling, fast December course tours downtown Huntsville, passes the U.S. Space and Rocket Center to run beside rockets and a space shuttle, crosses the Botanical Garden, and finishes indoors in the Von Braun Center.
