About this race
Set on the Andean slopes of Rucu Pichincha, the volcano looming over Quito, Ecuador, this high-altitude ultra starts and finishes at the TeleferiQo cable car and climbs into thin equatorial air near 4,620 m, with the whole capital spread below. Launched in 2014, it offers 10, 30 and 50 km routes, mostly on trail; the 50 km gains about 3,875 m and the 30 km near 2,020 m. The altitude, more than the vertical, is the real test. A UTMB Index race held in early August.
