First run in 1983, the Zengwen Reservoir Marathon is Taiwan's longest-running marathon, held each December around Zengwen Reservoir, the island's largest, in the forested mountains straddling Tainan's Nanxi District and Chiayi County. The World Athletics-certified out-and-back course starts at the water-resources office and rolls over Zengwen Bridges 3 and 4, the Zengwen's Eye lookout and the dam crest, with lake-and-mountain views. Distances are 42.195K, 21.3K, 12K and a 3K fun run.
