About this race
The Paavo Nurmi Marathon in Turku honours the greatest distance runner in history — Paavo Nurmi, the 'Flying Finn' who won 9 Olympic gold medals in a sport-defining 1920s career from Turku. The course runs from the statue of Nurmi himself, through Finland's former capital and oldest city, along the Aura River lined with summer restaurant barges, past medieval Turku Cathedral, through the Swedish Quarter, and along the Turku Archipelago coastline.
