About This Race

The Pikes Peak Marathon is America's toughest marathon — a gruelling out-and-back run from Manitou Springs (6,295 ft) to the 14,115-foot summit of Pikes Peak (the mountain that inspired 'America the Beautiful') and back down. The extreme course gains 7,815 feet of vertical through alpine tundra, above the treeline, past glacial lakes, and through technical rocky terrain. Only the fittest, most acclimatized runners survive this legendary Colorado mountain challenge.
