About This Race
The Maratón de Santo Domingo runs through the oldest European city in the Americas — founded in 1498 by Christopher Columbus's brother Bartholomew. The flat Caribbean course winds along the Malecón coastal avenue, through the UNESCO Zona Colonial with its 16th-century Cathedral and Columbus's oldest palace (Alcázar de Colón), past the Columbus Lighthouse, and along the Caribbean seafront of this vibrant, merengue-filled city.
