About This Race

The Beppu-Oita Mainichi Marathon is Asia's oldest road marathon, established in 1952, and one of Japan's most prestigious elite events. The point-to-point coastal course runs from Beppu — a dramatic onsen hot spring city where steam vents from the earth in over 2,800 geothermal springs — along Beppu Bay's turquoise Seto Inland Sea coastline to Oita. The steam from 'hell pools' (jigoku) is often visible from the start.
