Heritage
First run in 1974, the Berlin Marathon (title-sponsored by BMW since 2011) is one of the World Marathon Majors and is famed as the fastest marathon course in the world. The marathon world record has been broken in Berlin on thirteen occasions — a long line of men's records and the women's record by Tigst Assefa in 2023. The 2024 edition was the 50th running and, with 54,280 finishers, the largest marathon in the world at the time.
