About This Race
The Dakar Marathon runs through the westernmost city in continental Africa — Dakar sits dramatically on a peninsula extending into the Atlantic Ocean on the edge of the Sahara Desert. The flat coastal course winds along the Corniche Ouest oceanfront, past the iconic Monument de la Renaissance Africaine (Africa's tallest statue), past Gorée Island ferries in the harbour, through Plateau's French colonial administrative quarter, and along the beaches of the Almadies cape.
