Kobe Marathon is a November road race through the Japanese port city of Kobe, first held in 2011 under the theme of “Thanks and Friendship” as a symbol of recovery after the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake. Starting in central Sannomiya, the scenic course runs along the waterfront and past the harbour before finishing on Port Island. It has grown into one of western Japan's most popular big-city marathons.
