About This Race
The Matsumoto Marathon runs through one of Japan's most scenically dramatic cities — Matsumoto sits in a mountain basin with the snow-capped Hotaka peaks of the Japanese Northern Alps rising to 3,190m directly behind the stunning Matsumoto Castle ('Black Crow Castle' — Japan's oldest remaining wooden castle). The crisp alpine autumn air makes for ideal running conditions, with autumn foliage blazing on the mountain slopes above.
