About This Race
The Shamrock Marathon at Virginia Beach is the world's largest St. Patrick's Day road race — a flat, fast Atlantic Ocean course held the weekend of the holiday. Runners finish on the famous Virginia Beach Boardwalk with Irish band celebrations and the longest post-race beer party in marathon history. The BQ-eligible course runs along the oceanfront boardwalk, through Fort Story Military Reservation to Cape Henry (where the first English settlers landed in 1607), and back along the Atlantic shoreline.
