About This Race

The Western States 100 is the oldest and most prestigious 100-mile ultramarathon in world running — established in 1977, with a course through the Sierra Nevada Mountains from Squaw Valley Olympic ski resort to the high school track in Auburn. Runners traverse 18,000 feet of climbing and 23,000 feet of descent through the Granite Chief wilderness, across the American River canyons, over 100°F temperatures in the canyons, and finish under the famous stadium lights. Lottery entry only.
