About This Race
The Xiamen International Marathon is one of China's most scenic — a World Athletics Gold Label course that runs on a coastal causeway with the South China Sea shimmering on both sides like a bridge in the ocean. The course passes Gulangyu Island (UNESCO World Heritage — called "Piano Island" for its 200 piano academies per capita), along the coastline facing Taiwan 180km across the strait, past the Hulishan Fortress with its 19th-century German Krupp cannon still aimed at Taiwan, and through Xiamen's colonial Portuguese corridors.
