About This Race

The Christchurch Marathon offers a flat, fast, and scenic course based within the beautiful Hagley Park, the green heart of the Garden City. The event carries the legacy of the 1974 Christchurch Commonwealth Games marathon, where Ian Thompson ran the second-fastest time in history. The central city course gives runners a more urban vibe compared to many New Zealand marathons, passing the rebuilt Christchurch Cathedral and the vibrant new city center that has risen since the 2011 earthquakes. The event offers a full marathon, half marathon, 10km, and Youth 3K and Kids Mile distances.
